Creative Conducere
Affirmation: I am equipped with the skills, strength and devotion to overcome any obstacle
Copper: Grounding; Amplifies healing energy and positivity; Conductor, connects the physical and spiritual; Anti-inflammatory; Balances energetic body and Chakras
I receive requests from customers to work with other material, like silver or gold, but often I decline. I will make some relics with other metals, I find silver has a more feminine, cooling lunar energy, but my creative energy flows best with copper.
Why copper? I have my own personal reasons for my love of this metal - the more I understand myself, the more intentional I become with the elements I choose to engage. For instance, astrologically-speaking being a double air sign, and in Ayruveda, a Vata Dosha, I attune well to the grounding, warming and balancing qualities that copper radiates.
From an industrial perspective, Copper is a conduit - it has the highest electrical conductivity of any engineering metal. Copper reduces electrical energy losses, ensures energy performance, safety and efficiency.
Biologically, copper can aid in detecting acidity levels in the body. Some folks avoid copper because of it’s potential to turn skin green- with perspective, this can actually be a helpful indicator to raise health consciousness.
Individuals with more acidic skin may experience more distinct green discoloration due to heightened chemical activity between copper and the skin's surface.
High acidity in the body can show up as heavy breathing, poor lung function, and blood sugar imbalance to name a few symptoms. It can ultimately lead to chronic pain and inflammation, heart problems, ulcers and auto-immune disease.
Copper is anti-microbial, ongoing research measures the effectiveness of copper to reduce the transmission of bacteria and viruses on high-touch surfaces. In 2020 Vancouver implemented copper surfaces on buses to reduce spread and support wellness.
When ingested, copper can improve digestion, boost immunity and regulate tyroid function, and reduce inflammation. While relics only rest on the body, the skin is highly absorbent. Consciously choosing the placement of your relic and custom length chain can help target particular areas for healing (throat, heart, navel…etc).
Creatively, I started my wrapping journey with brass wire, both accessible and affordable for me at the time, however, it wasn’t until I transitioned to working with copper, that my intuitive art flourished.
When I was a beginner, I adored the flexibility and forgiving nature of copper. A connection I had with an electrician linked me with a convenient source for material, this way I didn’t feel guilt for excess wire. Though I continued to collect the pieces, for what now have become relics for the Los Chaos collection.
From the words of Rumi:
Through Love all that is bitter will be sweet, Through Love all that is copper will be gold, Through Love all dregs will become wine, through Love all pain will turn to medicine
Due to its spirited and warm nature, copper attunes with divine energy and is a preferred metal for items used in religious practices such as Aarti, a Hindu ritual of reverence. In ancient Vedic texts like the Mahabharata, copper was one of the metals which mighty warriors chose to craft their weapons.
In healing lingo, the word “conduit” means to channel energy to allow flow, movement and change. In Latin, it means to “bring together”.
These two intentions, impermanence and unity, support Relics of A Wolfe, they are the driving forces behind my creativity. The only constant is change, though we may resist, it is a constituent of life. The creative process takes time and patience as skill is built and vision expands. In unity, I cherish the moments when someone feels so strongly attracted to a relic, and through that initial attraction sparks a deeper connection, where we see each other.
Though through connection, with others, with art, with purposeful-action and heartfelt service, we find value in the uncertain ever-changing.
Mostly, I like copper because of it’s resilience, to me it feels over-used and under-valued in our society, yet it is timeless in its ability to endure. It is a metal that’s supported me through many blessings and challenges, it is a steadfast and invaluable companion of mine.
Heated gold becomes ornaments, beaten copper becomes wires, depleted stone becomes statue - So, the more pain you get in your life the more valuable you become.
